School SummaryDistrict 11
Among District 11 peers (which include highly-ranked charter schools like Icahn Charter School 4 at 96/100 and Bronx Charter School for Excellence 2 at 94/100), this school's academic performance data is not available for comparison. However, in trust and culture metrics, Bronx Academy of Health Careers matches or exceeds those top-performing charters — a notable achievement given its high economic need (89.7% vs. charters which often have less). The school sits in a neighborhood where family resources are limited, yet the school has built exceptional community trust.
Academic performance data was not provided for this school, making a direct comparison to the district averages of 57% in ELA and 56% in Math difficult. However, the school's exceptional teacher instruction quality rating of 100% (versus 92% district average) and the highly competitive admissions rate (8.3% offer rate from 1,006 applicants) suggest strong academic foundations. The school's AP course offerings and SAT Prep programming indicate college-preparatory intent.
This is where the school truly stands out. Parent satisfaction hits 95% (above the 93% district average), with parent-teacher trust at 98% and parent-principal trust at 97% — remarkably high for any school. Teacher instruction quality is rated a perfect 100%, and teacher-principal trust stands at 90%. The 75% family survey response rate indicates strong community engagement. Most notably, there were zero suspensions reported, compared to a district average suspension rate of 0.49%. This suggests a restorative or supportive approach to discipline rather than exclusionary practices.
The student body reflects the Williamsbridge-Olinville neighborhood: 55% Hispanic, 38% Black, with very small Asian (3%) and White (2%) populations. The diversity index of 52% is moderate. Nearly a quarter of students (23%) have IEPs, suggesting strong special education services. With 89.7% economic need, this is a high-poverty school serving families who face significant challenges — yet the school maintains top-tier trust and satisfaction scores, indicating families feel supported.
Williamsbridge-Olinville in the Bronx is a working-class neighborhood with significant challenges. Median household income is $55,609, with 22.5% of households living in poverty and only 20.5% of adults holding bachelor's degrees. The neighborhood scores poorly on safety (18th percentile) and transit access (41st percentile), though it ranks high on family density (65th percentile) and stability (85th percentile). Environmental health concerns exist — the childhood asthma emergency department rate is notably high (75.5 per 1,000), and 15.2% of households have elevated lead risk. The area is predominantly rental (68.6% homeownership), with a median home value of $518,473.
Given the neighborhood's lower transit score (41st percentile) and the school's location on East Gun Hill Road, families likely rely on bus routes or car travel. The area is more car-dependent than Manhattan or other transit-rich Bronx neighborhoods.
