District 1 offers families a predominantly zoned public school landscape, with a small handful of charter options and no private schools in the mix. The district runs a full K-12 footprint with 22 elementary, 15 middle, and 12 high schools, giving most families reasonable coverage from elementary through graduation. ELL support is relatively robust here—about a third of schools offer it—and you'll find world language programs, STEM tracks, and AP courses at a handful of schools across the district. Academic performance sits near the middle of the pack for the city, with state test scores hovering just above the halfway mark and attendance tracking at around 89 percent, which is fairly typical for Manhattan.
