School SummaryDistrict 32

District 32 (Bushwick) includes a mix of district schools and charter schools, with several peer schools scoring significantly higher on available metrics (Success Academy Bushwick at 96/100, P.S. 376 at 80/100). This school does not appear in the comparison dataset with a quality review score. However, the school's culture and climate metrics — particularly the zero suspension rate and exceptional trust scores — suggest a fundamentally healthy learning environment that may not be captured in standard metrics.

AcademicsSteady

Test score data was not provided for this school, making direct academic comparisons difficult. However, the school offers AP Courses and a distinctive Urban Planning curriculum that differentiates it from traditional academic programs. Class sizes average 20.8 students, essentially matching the district average, and the school provides ELL Support and Spanish language instruction.

Culturestrong

This is where the school stands out most dramatically. Parent satisfaction matches the district average at 93%, but teacher-reported instruction quality (95%) runs nearly 9 points above the district average (86%). Trust metrics are exceptional: parent-teacher trust at 96%, parent-principal trust at 96%, and teacher-principal trust at 94%. Most notably, the school recorded zero suspensions in the reporting period — a sharp contrast to the district average of 1.2%. This suggests a restorative or relationship-based approach to discipline that keeps students in classrooms learning.

Community

With 403 students across grades 9-12, this is a modestly-sized high school. The student body is predominantly Hispanic (70%) with significant Black enrollment (21%), reflecting Bushwick's demographics. The diversity index sits at 47%, and 22% of students have IEPs. Nearly 85% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch based on the economic need index, indicating a high-poverty population. Thirty-one percent of families responded to the school survey (123 responses), which is reasonable for a high school.

NeighborhoodBushwick (East)

Bushwick is a densely populated, transit-rich neighborhood in north-central Brooklyn. The area scores an exceptional 89.66 for transit access, making it highly commutable. However, the safety score of 23.75 is notably low — families should factor this into their calculus. The family density score (82.76) is very high, confirming this is a neighborhood where many families with children live. Median home values have reached $949,127, indicating ongoing neighborhood change. The poverty rate sits at 23.9%, with 11.5% of households having children.

Bushwick's excellent transit access (subway lines J, Z, L, and M serve the area) makes this school reachable by public transportation from much of Brooklyn and parts of Queens. The neighborhood is walkable, though the low safety score means families may prefer to accompany younger students.
