District 5 Schools
District 5 has a heavy charter presence, with roughly a third of its nearly 50 schools operating as charters alongside traditional public options. Families will find ELL support at about a third of schools, and a smaller slice offer world languages, AP courses, or dedicated STEM tracks. The academic performance sits around the middle of the pack for Manhattan, with roughly half of students meeting state proficiency benchmarks in math and reading, and attendance runs a few points below the citywide average. Middle and high school options include several screened and audition-based programs.
