Features & tools
Motley is built around three questions every NYC family asks: where should we live, which school is right, and is it safe? Here’s what each part of the app does. Some tools are part of Motley Pro— we’ve marked those.
Neighborhood rankings
Every one of NYC’s 262 neighborhoods, scored and sorted against the priorities you ranked. Open Neighborhoodsto browse, or dive into any one for safety, schools, affordability, parks, and the trade-offs that don’t fit in a number.
Map explorer
See it on the map. Neighborhood and district pages carry an interactive map with governance-colored school pins — green for public, blue for charter, amber for private — so you can read the geography at a glance.
School & early-education search
Search and filter across public, charter, and private schools on Schools, or 3-K, Pre-K, and NYCEEC programs on Early Education. Each school page covers ratings, programs, admissions methods, and how it compares to its district.
Smart Match (Pro)
Don’t want to sift through thousands of schools? Smart Match ranks every NYC school against your family in one pass and explains its top picks. Start one from Match.
Neighborhood snapshots
On any neighborhood page, generate a snapshot — a tailored read on what the area means for your family across safety, schools, cost of living, and more. Snapshots save to your account so you can revisit and compare them.
Admissions tracker, lottery simulator & reports (Pro)
- Admissions Tracker — deadlines, documents, and tours, organized per child.
- Lottery Simulator — your odds before you rank, from DOE data.
- PDF neighborhood reports — print them, share them, take them to showings.
- Calendar feed — admissions deadlines on Google, Apple, or Outlook.
