Motley Pro & billing
Motley has a generous free tier and an optional paid plan, Motley Pro, for families deep in a move or an admissions season. Here’s how they differ and how billing works.
What’s free
Browsing and ranking neighborhoods, searching schools and early-education programs, the district pages, head-to-head comparisons, the best-of lists, the admissions-methods reference, neighborhood snapshots, saving your research, and Intelligence’s answers are all free. You can set up your family profile and explore the whole city without paying.
What Motley Pro unlocks
Pro is $39 every 6 months and adds:
- Smart Match — every NYC school ranked to your family, top picks explained
- Admissions Tracker — deadlines, documents, and tours, per child
- Lottery Simulator — your odds before you rank, from DOE data
- PDF neighborhood reports — print, share, take to showings
- Up to 3 family profiles — compare your home with moves you're weighing
- Monitors — news on any 3 schools or neighborhoods, checked daily and categorized
- Automated place research — address, phone, hours, and a family summary for every place you save
- Calendar feed — deadlines on Google, Apple, or Outlook
Each of those has a guide of its own: Smart Match, lottery odds & reports, Admissions tracking & deadlines, Monitors & saved places, and Family profiles & children.
How to upgrade
Head to the pricing page or the Plan & Billing tab in Settings and choose Upgrade. Checkout is handled securely by Stripe; your plan unlocks the moment payment clears. It renews automatically at the end of each 6-month period.
Managing or canceling
Under Settings → Plan & Billing you’ll find your renewal date and a button into the Stripe customer portal. Canceling, updating your payment method, and downloading invoices all happen there — Stripe is the system of record for your subscription. If you cancel, Pro stays active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for, and a Resume button appears in Settings if you change your mind before then.
If a payment fails, we don’t cut you off — Pro stays on while Stripe retries the card, and we’ll email you so you can update it.
If your Pro access was granted directly rather than purchased, Settings will say so and there’s nothing for you to manage.
