District 31 Schools
Staten Island's District 31 is almost entirely zoned public schools with a small charter presence — no private options here. Families will find solid academic foundations, with district-wide proficiency sitting solidly above the city average in both reading and math, and strong daily attendance. The program mix is practical: ELL support is widely available, and there are world language options at the middle and high school level. A handful of schools offer AP coursework, and the district includes at least one SHSAT-admit specialized high school. Middle school options are reasonably full, though families seeking specialized STEM or arts-focused tracks will have fewer choices than in some other boroughs.
